Welcome to the Allagash Waterway Community
The Allagash Wilderness Waterway is a 92 mile north-flowing river in the northern reaches of Maine. It is a breathtaking expanse of natural beauty that offers visitors a unique opportunity to connect with nature and a rare combination of remote lakes, rivers, wildlife, historic sites and carefully managed campsites. The waterway has been protected by the State of Maine since 1966. In 1970 it became a federally protected wild river and part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System.
This site is a guide to this magnificent waterway. It shares my experiences paddling along the waterway, as well as some practical advice. The site also enables visitors to contribute their own experiences, thoughts and questions to help make this site a robust home for all those who find the Allagash magical.
